After a long career as an advertising copywriter for such agencies as the legendary direct-mail agency Wunderman, Ricotta and Kline (where I worked under the also legendary Tom Collins, later of Rapp & Collins), Grey Advertising (where I was a creative director), Darcy, McManus and Masius (since merged with Benton & Bowles), I'm semi-retired and able to pick and choose my working situations. While I've written quite a few direct-mail pieces and retail store campaigns in my time (ads that HAVE to work), my personal pride and joy is the work I've done in the entertainment industry where, as a copywriter and radio commercial producer, I helped develop the careers of literally hundreds of artists from Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson to Chicago and Elvis Costello (I was their exclusive copywriter throughout their stays on Columbia Records).
Advertising is still in my blood, and just as it did when I was in Junior High, dumb, ineffective, pointless advertising still makes my blood boil! AND I’M SEEING AN AWFUL LOT OF IT THESE DAYS...so...
